On Friday the 10th, Myself and Tash were lucky enough to join in on the second years 'Client Days'and get out for a cheeky paddle. The only reason being as we had missed kayak week for tech due to our bung legs. Great to get back out and go through some rolling technique adjustment and also practice moves throughout the trip after a long time out of the boat! Was a good day safe and easy all round

We put in at the Grade 3 and spent a while contemplating what we were about to paddle, we had safety both on the rocks and in the eddy below the Grade 3 rapid as each person ran it individually. We had a smooth run by everybody down the section and then a clean day down the remainder of the Grade 2 Section.

Another delightful day on the Arnie, cranked out a quick session down the section and jammed a few rolls and some maneuvering practice into the mix. Had a swim by Pip and Nathanael down three hole rapid and all was safe with a quick recovery by the crew. This made for a smooth trip.

Cruised down the Arnold River practicing turns and rolls, also surfing some of the great waves and holes the run had to offer, this created and enjoyable time for everyone, most paddlers tipped and rolled up right nice and smoothly.

Paddled the Grade 2 section only, had a safe trip down the run, no swims, everyone busted out rolls who did tip. Played around on consecutive rapids and had a sick time. Made for a great day on improving technique and chilling out over some great scenery and whitewater.

As we made our way to the Mikonui River Put in, we had figured out how isolated we really were. We turned off the main road and began our huge 20km in-land drive along steep gravel. Having a low car this became some what of a draining experience. We made our way along the road scrapping and crunching to the put in. We made it to the start and walked ten minutes the rivers edge. We put in and began our journey through the boney and shallow gorge. We reached our lunch spot and had a break while scouting one of the bigger rapids for the day setting lines. We all paddled the Grade 3 section tidily, and decided to walk back up and paddle it again, I was the last boat and managed to get myself pinned on the way down, hugging the rock I began to flip over, I lost my paddle, coming to the conclusion I was running out of choices I pulled myself out of the current and into the eddy. We all got to the take out with no swims and group full of cheerful faces.

Paddled the Arahura Grade 3 Section in groups of two. After a brutal walk in we arrived at the put in. As we put in we split into two groups to make for easier travelling. We all practiced our rolls and then headed off. We put in and everything was going smoothly, everyone was running it clean. As we hit the third rapid down, Nate flipped and whacked his head, disorientating himself he failed two rolls and went for a swim, after recovering Nate we had him back in his boat and edging to carry on. We paddled the remainder of the section and ended up having one of the sickest runs. All was a safe and ended up with a good trip.

Paddled the Hurunui River, the river was in flood but was not dangerous to run. We put in at the top of the Grade 2 and paddled this section and ran the hole run in 20mins due to the speed of the water. As this went so smoothly we put in at the Grade 3 and ran Maori Gully, this was also a smooth run and went well, Alister had a swim and was recovered quickly and we had him back in his boat with an ear to ear grin amping for more. The run took us 25mins also because of the extra water.

The run went well and was good for everyone, the run needed some more water, but overall it was still great to run and enjoyable for everyone. Turned out to be a good decision to run it and will be definitely returning in the long run.

After an easy and mellow walk in we reached the put in, as we put in we all cranked through some rolls making sure it was fresh in the memory, as we put on, through the first rapid, Tim was recirced and flipped on his head, after a brutal smack to the head and a cold swim we took him to the shore. We gave him a quick first aid assessment and we then decided to let him walk out and meet us at the take out. As we sent Tim on his way we all continued down and had a great day on the water. In the last rapid I flipped and smacked my head in a hole, after failing a roll and loosing my paddle I had a cold swim. A few minutes later and a quick recovery down we were on our way out of the gorge.

Well on Friday the 28th, the boys packed up and scattered off for a mission up the coast. We cruised on up to the mighty area of Karamea and arrived late into the night. We had a huge feed and decided on getting some sleep. We woke up and headed off to the Karamea River, we arrived at the end of the track and started on the wonderful walk in. We arrived at the put in after stopping and scouting certain area's. We put on and had a successful run down the river. Water was crisp and completely clear making for a stunning time. We took off after having a huge amount of fun. Ended up having a dope trip and making sure everyone had a safe and enjoyable time. Trip was Sick! Amped for next time.

First time running the grade 3 in a while, put in one rapid down from cheese grater, ran the grade 3 smooth super stoked to be back up there! Good run all round, tash had two swims, but she was recovered quickly and back in her boat, great for rescue practice!
